People normally shed around 50 to 100 hairs daily, this doesn’t cause noticeable thinning of the hair because new hair grows to replace it. Hair loss occurs if this cycle of hair growth becomes disrupted.
What Causes Hair Loss?
The full causes of hair loss are not fully understood however it is usually related to:
- Hormonal Change
- Medical Conditions
- Family History
Hereditary hair loss is the most common condition usually referred to as male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness. It generally occurs in predictable areas of the scalp such as a receding hairline.
Medications can cause hair loss including those used for cancer treatment, depression, heart problems, high blood pressure among others.
Some hair loss can be caused by a trigger event such as emotional or physical shock. This is usually temporary.
Pulling hair too tight can cause traction alopecia and agressive styling with heated appliances can permanently damage the hair shaft.
Our use of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Hair Loss Treatment along with topically applied medication can help to reduce hair loss and also stimulate healthy hair growth. It is not suitable for large areas of established male/female pattern baldness which often require surgical intervention such as a hair transplant.
